| Non-Metallic Expansion Joints
What are non-metallic expansion joints?*
Non-metallic expansion joints are flexible connectors designed
to provide stress relief in ducting systems by absorbing movement
caused by thermal changes. They also act as vibration isolators,
shock absorbers and in some instances to make up for minor misaligments
of adjoining ducting or equipment. They are fabricated from a
wide variety of non-metallic materials, including synthetic elastomers,
fabrics, insulation materials and fluoroplastics, depending on
the designs.

Textiles Coated International is a leading supplier of
materials for the non-metallic expansion joint industry.
For over 15 years, TEXTILES COATED INTERNATIONAL has been a manufacturer
of PTFE composites and laminate materials designed for use in
non-metallic expansion joint applications worldwide. Our PTFE
composites and laminates are engineered to survive corrosive environments
and severe temperatures.
Although the major user of TCI's non-metallic compensator materials
continues to be the power generation industry, the use of these
materials has expanded into virtually every industry which conveys
gases. These include but it is not limited to the following industries:
- Power Generation
- Pulp and Paper Plants
- Refineries
- Steel Mills
|
- Foundries
- Smelters
- Cement Plants
- Kilns
|
- Refuse Incineration
- Marine
- Food Processing
- Vapor/Heat/Dust Recovery

PTFE/fiberglass composites engineered for dry gas service
This material has been successfully used in expansion joint service
since 1985. It incorporates proven TEXCOAT coating technology
ideal for industrial fabrication. This fabric shows severe chemical
and temperature exposure capabilities. Special colors are available
upon request. TCI manufactures TEXCOAT in different thicknesses
to better serve your company non-metallic expansion joint requirements.
Laminated PTFE/fiberglass composites engineered for dry
gas service
This material has been successfully used in non-metallic expansion
joint service since 1990. The TEXFILM product line has a thin
PTFE film laminated to a TEXCOAT load-bearing component. The thin,
laminated film is a cost-effective approach to significantly improving
the performance of a PTFE-coated fiberglass component when exposed
to corrosive environments. The typical thickness of film for a
TEXFILM product is 0.004 or 0.005". Variations can be engineered
upon request.
100% PTFE corrosion liners, eliminates concern for chemical
attack.
The LFP CrossFilm-based corrosion liner series is an ward-winning,
100% PTFE expansion joint material designed for the most challenging
applications in industry. Because of its unique multidirectional
strength and stress crack resistance, LFP CrossFilm-based is a
self supporting material. No reinforcements, which are susceptible
to chemical attack, are needed. CrossFilm-based corrosion liners
also have tremendous flexing capability, easily outlasting fiberglass
reinforced materials and other PTFE products in high flex applications.
LFP corrosion liners can be fabricated into all shapes and sizes.
LFP corrosion liners laminated to a PTFE/fiberglass
composite engineered for wet and corrosive exposure
A thick LFP Corrosion Liner is laminated to TEXCOAT Load Bearing
Component. Designed for chemical environments where the critical
performance of the expansion joint material cannot be compromised,
the combination of these components represents the latest advancement
in material technology for the expansion joint industry. The
advantages of CrosssFilm-based barrier technology are explained
in the CrossFilm Technology Section. The TEX-LFP
CrossFilm-based product line can be customized to meet individual
or application requirements.
Insulation component laminated to a PTFE/fiberglass composite
engineered for severe temperature exposure
The lamination of an insulation component to a PTFE/fiberglass
composite raises the upper temperature capability of the product
and improves the durability of the insulation. All Thermalam products
can be fabricated into expansion joints and customized to suit
customer needs.
